Regional English Language Committee
The Regional English Language Committee is mandated to provide its opinion to the Board of Directors of the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l'Abitibi-Témiscamingue on:
The English Expression Access Program to health and social services developed in accordance with the current law;
The modifications to be made to this program.
Additionally, the committee must fulfill several specific mandates:
Make recommendations to the various bodies of the CISSS of Abitibi-Témiscamingue on desirable directions in terms of planning, programming, and evaluation of services, in terms of accessibility for English-speaking individuals.
See to the establishment and continuation of work aimed at documenting the states of affairs regarding specific issues and formulating solution hypotheses, in order to counter the different types of obstacles related to accessibility to services in English.
Contribute to the promotion, at the provincial level, of regional interests in terms of accessibility to services in English.
Establish the committee’s priorities annually and report them to the CEO of the CISSS of Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
Composition of the Committee
The regional committee is composed of 11 members, appointed to be representative of all English-speaking individuals in the region. Members must come from one of the organizations promoting the interests of English-speaking individuals identified by the provincial committee.
These organizations are:
- Centre d'amitié autochtone de Val-d'Or (CAAVD);
- Centre d'entraide et d'amitié autochtone de Senneterre (CEAAS);
- Centre résidentiel communautaire d'Abitibi-Témiscamingue (CRC-ATNQ);
- Commission scolaire Western Quebec;
- Conseil de bande de la Première Nation de Kebaowek – Kipawa;
- Conseil de bande de Long Point;
- Conseil de bande de Timiskaming;
- Conseil de bande de Wolf Lake;
- Neighbours;
- Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT);
- Wiichihiituwin (Services aux patients Cris) / Conseil Cri de la santé et des services sociaux de la Baie James (CCSSSBJ).
The composition of the committee is as follows:
Three (3) members from the MRC du Témiscamingue;
Three (3) members from the Ville de Rouyn-Noranda;
Three (3) members from the MRC de la Vallée-de-l'Or;
Two (2) individuals with specific interests related to English-speaking individuals.

The CISSS of Abitibi-Témiscamingue is seeking the participation of English-speaking individuals who meet the above-mentioned characteristics. It should be noted that to fulfill the committee’s mandate, three (3) to four (4) virtual meetings are planned annually.
