Suicide

Suicide should never be an option; There are always solutions. Having suicidal thoughts can happen to anyone. If you are experiencing a situation of despair that leads you to think about suicide, do not hesitate to consult and ask for help. Several resources are available. A competent and attentive person will offer you a confidential and quality service.

Suicide Prevention Centres 

Suicide Prevention Centres offer a wide range of prevention, awareness, intervention, training and postvention services. Their services are intended for people in distress, their loved ones, people bereaved by suicide, but also professionals working in the public health and social services network, in the private sector and in schools or community settings: 

  • Face-to-face intervention; 
  • Support for people bereaved following the suicide of a loved one; 
  • Occasional or short-term follow-up of people at risk of suicide; 
  • Postvention (suicide intervention; family meetings, group meetings, work environments, school environments, etc.); 
  • Support for community stakeholders; 
  • Support for loved ones of a suicidal person. 

Sentinel Training 

The Acting as a Sentinel for Suicide Prevention training is aimed at adult volunteers, who are likely to be in contact with people vulnerable to suicide in the context of their work or during volunteer activities and who do not necessarily have training in counselling. Following the training, the sentinel is equipped to recognize the warning signs of suicidal behaviour in his or her living environment and can then direct the person to the appropriate support resources.
