Psychosocial Consultation

General social services (GSS) are one of the main points of entry to the CISSS of Abitibi ‑-Témiscamingue, within the framework of the CLSC mission. They are responsible for responding to anyone who contacts the institution seeking help for a psychological or social need and for referring them to the appropriate services. General social services assist individuals experiencing situational or temporary problems who require short-term interventions (individual, family, or group).

Types of services:

  • Reception, analysis, orientation and referral (AAOR). The concept of AAOR refers to the support of individuals within the health and social services system, as well as services ranging from promotion to intervention;
  • 24/7 psychosocial telephone consultation (Info-Social - 811, option 2);
  • 24/7 crisis intervention in the living environment;
  • Social consultation;
  • Social services in a civil security context for a population experiencing a disaster, tragedy or situation that requires the help of a group of psychosocial interveners to facilitate a return to normal life.

Target clientele

The clientele of general social services consists of the entire population who are experiencing a social problem or who have questions about the subject.

Where can I find information?

By calling the CLSC or your family doctor if he/she is registered in a family medicine group (GMF), and ask to speak to a counselor.

Why consult a doctor?

  • Marital and family intervention;
  • Suicide risk assessment;
  • Prevention and screening for problems related to domestic violence and sexual assault;
  • Intervention related to situations of risk in the functioning and social problems of individuals.

By phone

In person

  • Contact the CLSC service point nearest you to make an appointment with a service provider.
  • Consult your family doctor. A social consultation service is available in each GMF (Family Medicine Group).

If an urgent situation arises that requires immediate action, call 911 or go to the hospital emergency room.
