Drugs, Alcohol and Pathological Gambling

You're wondering, "Do I have a problem?"

If you are asking yourself this question or that of a loved one, it is time to get help to gain some clarity.

The CISSS of Abitibi-Témiscamingue offers specialized addiction services (alcohol, drugs, medication, or gambling) throughout the region. These services are available to both individuals with addictions and their family and friends.

To receive help, contact your local CLSC service point , which is the entry point for addiction services. At the CLSC, a member of the intake, analysis, orientation, and referral (AAOR) team will conduct an assessment using screening tools, depending on the issue. The results of these assessments will help direct the individual to appropriate resources, based on the type and level of needs identified.

Residential rehabilitation for adults

Residential rehabilitation services are offered in Amos to adults with alcohol, drug, and gambling addictions. Ten places are available for men and women, and these services are offered as a rehabilitation program (1 to 5 weeks depending on the level of care required). To be admitted to the residential rehabilitation program, the individual's addiction must require a specific level of care, and they must be referred by an external service provider.

The program aims for five main general objectives based on an assessment of user needs:

  • Offer a period of pause or end of weaning;
  • To take stock of one's consumption and the associated impacts and to acquire new, more suitable means to deal with one's problems;
  • To offer a comprehensive observation of the person in their daily actions in order to identify the changes to be made;
  • To distance oneself from one's environment, to reposition oneself and to make choices;
  • To offer support to the user in their social reorganization.
