Les Incomprises : Un système mal équipé pour diagnostiquer, traiter et soutenir la santé cardiaque des femmes
Les femmes atteintes de maladies du coeur sont sous-représentées dans les travaux de recherche; ces maladies sont mal diagnostiquées et traitées chez elles; ces dernières reçoivent un faible soutien à leur rétablissement; et elles ne sont pas conscientes de leur risque.
Faits importants
- Les maladies du coeur sont la cause principale de décès prématuré chez les femmes au pays.
- Les signes précurseurs d’une crise cardiaque sont passés inaperçus chez 78 % des femmes, selon une étude rétrospective publiée dans la revue anglophone Circulation.
- Deux tiers des études cliniques sur les maladies du coeur se concentrent sur les hommes seulement.
- Les femmes sont cinq fois plus à risque de mourir d’une maladie du coeur que du cancer du sein.
- Au pays, les maladies du coeur emportent une femme toutes les 20 minutes.
- Les femmes qui font une crise cardiaque sont plus susceptibles que les hommes d’en mourir ou de subir un deuxième événement cardiaque dans les six mois suivants.
