What is this service?
811 is the specific number for this service. By dialing 811 you will be immediately connected to a nurse for non-urgent health problems. The service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Anyone residing in Québec can call Info-Santé 811 for themselves or on behalf of a loved one.
The nurses at Info-Santé 811 provide advice and can answer health related questions. By calling Info-Santé 811 you can often avoid going needlessly to a clinic or to the Emergency department. However, in the case of a serious condition or immediate need for care, it is important to call 911 or to go directly to the Emergency department.
When to call?
It is possible to call for yourself or a loved one for the following situations:
- Health condition (minor, chronic, accidental, acute, following a surgery or other);
- Information regarding available health resources;
- Palliative care;
- Care technique;
- Medication;
- Public and environmental health;
- Any other health concerns.
Personal information remains confidential. However, it is not necessary to provide any. If you choose not to, mention it to the nurse.
The nurse will listen to you and ask questions about your condition. She will assess your situation in order to determine the urgency and the appropriate intervention.
She informs you about your health condition. She can also advise you on measures to take to monitor the progression of your condition and to improve your health condition. If necessary, she will direct you to the proper resource (medical clinic, for example) where you will receive care or obtain the necessary services.

Qualified psychosocial services workers available to anyone experiencing difficulties, who have questions and who are unable to resolve them. They can offer you support, advice or provide information or refer you to the appropriate resources in the area.

- Grieving;
- Mental health;
- Youth in difficulty;
- Sexuality;
- Family and relationship issues;
- Addictions;
- Breakup;
- Suicidal thoughts;
- Any other situation or behavior that is of concern.
