Mobility Impairment

Fine motor deficiency in children and adolescents

Welcome to the habilitation, rehabilitation and social integration program for children and adolescents aged 0 to 17 with a fine motor deficiency.

 

Clientele

  • Your child displays mobility issues?
  • Your child displays serious difficulties in activities that require dexterity?
  • Your child displays serious difficulties following an accident or illness?

Admissibility criteria

A child or adolescent is admissible to the program if they present:

  • An attack on the nervous system (cerebral motor deficit (CMD)), neuropathy, myopathy, other attacks on the nervous system);
  • Osteopathy or arthropathy (arthritis, scleroderma);
  • Dismemberment (amputation).

 

Also admissible is a child aged 0 to 5 who presents:

  • An overall developmental delay affecting at least two areas of development (one is a motor deficiency) and the learning delay is more than 6 months.

Attainable objectives

The purpose of our program is assist the child or adolescent with living an active life while taking their lifestyle into account (ex.: nutrition, personal care, communication, mobility, education, pastimes, etc.), of their condition and actual needs. We favor as much as possible their autonomy so that they can integrate easily and this, in all aspects of their lives (social, educational and professional integration, etc.).

Fine motor deficiency in adults

Clientele

Adults with a serious and lasting fine motor deficiency or disability since birth or who present side effects following an accident or illness.

Admissibility criteria

Neurotrauma

Welcome to the habilitation, rehabilitation and social integration programs in Neurotrauma.

 

The following programs are found in Neurotrauma:

  • Habilitation, rehabilitation and social integration program for children and adolescents suffering from moderate or severe head injury or concussion.
  • Habilitation, rehabilitation and social integration program for adults suffering from a moderate or severe head injury or concussion.
  • Habilitation, rehabilitation and social integration program for individuals suffering from a mild head injury or concussion.
  • Habilitation, rehabilitation and social integration program for individuals suffering from a musculoskeletal injury.
  • Habilitation, rehabilitation and social integration program for individuals suffering from a spinal injury.

Clientele

If you have suffered serious problems following a car accident, work-related accident, a fall, sports injury, etc.

Admissibility criteria

You must have a diagnosis of:

  • Head injury or concussion (including shaken baby syndrome);
  • Spinal injury (paraplegic, quadraplegic);
  • Musculoskeletal injury (multiple or complex fractures, serious burns, complex soft tissue injury, traumatic amputations).

Cerebrovascular Accident or stroke (CVA)

Welcome to the habilitation, rehabilitation and social integration program for individuals suffering from a cerebrovascular accident or stroke (CVA).

Clientele

  • If you have mobility problems following your stroke.
  • If you have difficulty speaking following your stroke.
  • If you have memory problems following your stroke.

 

Admissibility criteria

Anyone who has suffered a cerebrovascular accident or stroke (CVA).

Attainable objectives

The purpose of our program is assist the individual in living an active life while taking their lifestyle into account (ex.: nutrition, personal care, communication, mobility, education, pastimes, etc.), of their condition and actual needs. We favor as much as possible their autonomy so that they can integrate easily and this, in all aspects of their lives (social, educational and professional integration, etc.)

 

Intensive functional rehabilitation unit (URFI)

Situated at Macamic, the Intensive functional rehabilitation unit (URFI) of the CISSS de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue offers intensive rehabilitation services to individuals who present motor deficiencies so that they can regain maximal autonomy.

The URFI accepts clients aged 18 and over, presenting with a significant and lasting neuro-musculo-skeletal deficiency following a motor deficiency which could cause limitations in accomplishing daily tasks, for example, persons having suffered a stroke or amputation.

An essential collaboration

The success of the habilitation and rehabilitation approach at Centre de réadaptation en déficience intellectuelle, trouble du spectre de l’autisme et déficience physique rests on the collaboration and involvement of the families, on the participation of the user in their treatment and on the integration of these skills in their different living environments.

The individual involved in the rehabilitation process is considered as the key agent of change. They occupy a place of importance in the decision making process and their opinion is solicited during the different stages of the rehabilitation process.

A team of dynamic specialists

Our professional and competent specialists will work the individual, the child or adolescent and their family to reach the established objectives within their intervention plan or to meet the needs for technical aids. They are audiologists, specialised educators, speech language pathologists, social workers, psychologists or mechanics (for the technical aids sector). Other professionals could be integrated into the team according to the needs.

Our specialised services are personalized and centered on the individual and their family. We take into account the wishes of the individual in their rehabilitation project and they are considered as the expert when it comes to their condition.

Rehabilitation services have a beginning and an end. The decision to end rehabilitation is made from pre-established criteria in the program and, following a discussion with the user, their family and the rehabilitation team.

According to the situation, services are offered at the Centre de réadaptation en déficience intellectuelle, trouble du spectre de l'autisme et déficience physique or in different living environments of the individual (home, workplace, activities, etc.) to foster learning in all areas.

Always within a comprehensive approach, our interveners establish ties with hospitals, the CLSC or other healthcare facilities of the region, as well as in daycares, schools, and with the municipal and community environments.
